An executive body called the Science and Technology Unit runs the work of the program, and comprises the following committees:
The Supervisory Committee:
It oversees all the administrative, financial, media and technical duties of the program and directs its work. This committee meets periodically, and its duties are summarized as follows:
Introducing the National Science and Technology Plan within the University.
Overseeing the preparation of the forms and the announcements for submitting preliminary and detailed proposals, and preparing the timetables for that.
Acting as the point of contact with the secretariat of the Supervisory Committee at the City.
Sending the suitable detailed research projects to the secretariat of the Supervisory Committee at the City.
Following up the progress of the accepted projects, to ensure that they achieve their objectives on schedule.
Drawing up scientific plans, strategies, programs and projects, and setting the priorities for implementing the approved program projects for King Saud University in light of the directions and priorities of the National Science and Technology Plan.
Following up scientific and technical developments.
Identifying the opportunities available in international agreements, and investing in them and developing them into programs and projects with defined features and objectives.
Establishing policies that enable researchers to benefit from the scientific and technical assistance, research and training grants, consultations and other services offered by international scientific unions, bodies and organizations.
Coordinating with the other development programs at the University with regard to securing the intellectual property rights of researchers, registering patents, announcing awards, and marketing research results to industrial institutions, and so on.
Overseeing the organization of workshops, seminars, conferences, and so on.
Preparing the annual reports on the achievements accomplished and on the progress of the work.
Updating the program’s data on the Unit’s website.
Periodic evaluation of the program’s work and study of the proposals for developing it.
Overseeing the program’s bulletins and publications.
The Scientific Committee:
It is composed of representatives of specialized sub-committees in the various technologies identified in the National Plan. These committees study and review the related research projects, and their duties can be summarized as follows:
Providing the scientific advice and technical services necessary for researchers.
Receiving the research projects submitted by researchers directly through the program’s electronic system.
Studying and reviewing the research projects and issuing its recommendations on each proposal.
Informing researchers of the observations of the Scientific Committee and the reviewers, and guiding them to make the necessary amendments to their research proposals.
Studying and reviewing the periodic and final technical reports.
Preparing reports on the progress of the projects’ work.
Referring the research proposals to the Scientific Committee in groups, classified by technology and accompanied by the review results and the observations of the specialized committees, for approval, based on the research priorities of the plan.
Technology Transfer Department:
It includes sub-committees for each of the following programs:
Establishing technology zones and incubators
Research grants
Innovations Center
Science Oasis
Each committee studies the projects submitted to the program that fall within its scope, and refers its observations to the Supervisory Committee
