General rules for the budget of research projects
The project budget is prepared in accordance with the following conditions:
- The project budget must not exceed (2,000,000) two million riyals.
- The total manpower budget in the research project must not exceed 40% of the total research budget. Any proposal or project that presents strong justifications may be exempted from this rule, as may proposals that depend on manpower.
- The budget must include at least one graduate student.
- The number of consultants participating in the project must not exceed (2) per year.
- The number of full-time participants (research assistant - technician - graduate student) in the project must not exceed one only
- The cost of the conferences item must not exceed (60,000 riyals) per year including tickets, and the program’s approval must be obtained one month before the date of attending the conference.
- The training item in the budget, whether inside or outside the Kingdom, must not exceed (70,000 riyals) including tickets, provided that a detailed program of the training courses is prepared when submitting the proposal. The program’s approval must be obtained one month before the date of attending the training course.
- The budget of the internal trips item must not exceed (100 thousand riyals) throughout the project period, provided that a detailed program of the trips is prepared (destination of the trip - number of participants - number of days - costs).
- The tickets item is exclusive to the consultants and one co-investigator only from outside the University, per year.
- The budget for patent costs must not exceed (30,000 riyals) for the project, and shall be during the second year.
- The total cost of the workshops item must not exceed (50,000 riyals) during the project period.
- The publishing fees must not exceed (30,000 riyals) during the project period.
- Other Expenses item (10,000 riyals), and the purpose of its disbursement shall be specified.
- The total of the trips and other items must not exceed 10% of the total budget, and if this percentage is exceeded, convincing justifications for the reasons for the increase must be submitted.
- The number of field trip days must not exceed 60 days per year.
- The detailed budget approved by the Unit is the budget under which work is carried out, in the event that the technical aspects are completed and the amounts allocated for spending on the research are available.
- Requesting an increase in the project budget after signing the contract is not permitted.
